Birth Doula Services

Sarah of Coastal Cradle Doula Care provides personalized and empowering birth doula services to Williamsburg, Virginia and surrounding cities, supporting mothers through her journey from pregnancy to postpartum

I'll work with you to create your unique birth plan, help you find comfort and confidence during labor, and support your partner in being fully present for you. After remaining your steady presence through labor and birth, I will also provide any assistance to best facilitate a peaceful setting and mother-baby bonding in the precious "golden hour." Additionally, I'll provide a postpartum follow-up visit to check in on you and your family, offering support and helpful resources as you enter the fourth trimester.

Labor & Birth

I'll provide steady support as you labor through the birth of your baby, igniting confidence and calm so you can enter into the transformative experience of birth feeling empowered. I will:

  • Provide emotional support through calming reassurance, helping to ease any fears or anxieties
  • Utilize physical comfort measures such as massage, counter-pressure, and position changes to manage pain and promote progress
  • Employ your preferred spiritual or holistic methods for comfort and relaxation, including prayer and affirmations, acupressure, breathing exercises, massage, essential oil therapy, guided visualization, and yoga
  • Act as your advocate in your birth setting, helping to communicate your preferences to medical staff, ensure that the birth plan is respected as much as possible, and protect your space and privacy
  • Answer questions, explains medical terms or procedures, and provides information to support informed decision-making
  • Offer words of encouragement and motivation to remind you of your strength and progress — your body was truly made for this!
  • Help create a calming birth space with soft lighting, music, or other comforting elements, based on your preferences
  • Stay at least one hour post birth to assist with baby's first feeding, promote skin-to-skin, and help create an optimal calm environment

The first couple of hours after birth are crucial moments of your and your baby's life. I would be happy to remain and assist you as you need to ensure your bond, whether that's preparing a meal, running laundry, helping with pets, or making calls.
